OEM/ODM Power Strip Customization Guide for Importers and Distributors

Jul 16,2026

For importers and distributors, a custom power strip or extension socket project starts with a clear market requirement, not only a product photo. Guanglong Electrical is a factory-based manufacturer in Foshan, China, supporting export buyers with power strips, extension sockets, cable reels, plug tops and adapters. This guide explains how to prepare an OEM or ODM project so that product, branding, packaging and market requirements can be confirmed in the right order.

Start with the target market and a suitable base product

The first decision is where the product will be sold. Buyers should confirm the plug standard, voltage and current requirement, socket pattern, cable length, safety features and any local labeling or certification requirement. A model that works for one market may need a different plug, cable, socket layout or packaging for another market.

For a general extension-socket project, buyers can begin with the Extension Socket range. For projects that require UK-specific specifications, the UK Extension Socket range provides a more relevant starting point. For plug-conversion projects, buyers can also review the  Adapter Plug range before sending a customization brief.

Define the customization points before requesting a quota tion

An effective OEM request states exactly what will change from the base model. Common customization points include plug type, cable length, socket configuration, individual switches, product color, logo placement, retail box design, export carton marking and barcode or label requirements.

Not every option is available for every model or order quantity. The factory needs to review the selected product, target market, tooling requirement and production feasibility before confirming a customization proposal. Sending a reference sample, drawing or marked product photo early can prevent avoidable revisions later.

Prepare logo, color and printing files early

For branded projects, buyers should provide a clear logo file, color reference, printing position and packaging artwork before sample approval. A logo that looks suitable on a retail box may not be suitable for every product surface, so the printing method and available space should be checked with the factory.

Guanglong has production processes for product assembly and printing. Buyers who want to understand the manufacturing environment behind a customized order can review  Our Factory  before the project is finalized.

Treat packaging as part of the OEM product specification

Packaging is not a final decoration step. It affects retail presentation, importer information, carton packing, barcodes, shipping marks and the condition in which a distributor receives goods. Specify the retail box, inner pack, master carton, quantity per carton and market-specific label requirements during the quotation stage.

For a new brand, provide editable artwork and allow time for the factory to check print layout, wording and carton dimensions. For a repeat order, confirm whether the previous artwork, color and packing arrangement remain unchanged before production is scheduled.

Confirm certification and documentation requirements before sampling

Electrical accessory requirements differ by market. Buyers should identify the needed standard, testing, importer marking and documentation before choosing a final model. Guanglong materials include certifications or test documentation associated with standards and markets such as UKCA, BS1363, ECAS/ESMA, G-Mark, SASO, MS589, SS145 and ISO 9001.

The correct document depends on the exact model, destination and current project requirement. Buyers can review  Certifications, then confirm the relevant route with the factory. Do not assume that one certificate automatically applies to every product configuration or country.

Approve the sample and final specification before bulk production

Before a bulk order, buyers should approve the model, plug type, cable, socket layout, color, logo treatment, packaging and any required labeling. Samples are useful for checking product appearance and function, but the approved sample should match the written production specification.

When a project includes new artwork, a special cable, a new plug configuration or market-specific documentation, leave time for technical review and sample confirmation. Clear approval records reduce the risk of a bulk order being produced to an earlier version of the requirement.

Send a complete OEM/ODM inquiry

A useful inquiry includes the product model or reference photo, target market, expected order quantity, plug requirement, socket arrangement, cable length, color, logo file, packaging request and delivery destination. Add any required standard, test report, label or retail-channel requirement at the beginning.

The more complete the brief, the more accurately the factory can assess feasibility, prepare a quotation and recommend a production route. This is especially important for distributors planning a branded range rather than purchasing a standard catalog item.

Build a repeatable supply process

For repeat OEM or ODM orders, keep approved product specifications, artwork files, packaging references and quality requirements together. Reconfirm any change to the market, plug, cable, color, carton or documentation before each production run.

This approach makes it easier for importers and distributors to scale a product range while keeping the factory, product specification and sales-market requirement aligned.
